Norrtälje Dockers Australian Football Club was founded in a local hotel in February 2012 by a small group of friends. The idea grew from Australian local Ryan Tucker’s vision to have an AFL team in Norrtälje to grow the sport in the Stockholm area. The aim was to form a club and compile a team to train during the 2012 season with intentions of entering the competition in 2013. The idea though, grew quickly and a team was introduced to compete in the 2012 Stockholm Australian Football Federation (SAFF). The Dockers have since participated in the SAFF Premiership in the Stockholm region.
The Norrtälje Dockers played thier first official competition game against the Södermalm Blues on Saturday the 12th of May at the Norrtälje Football Oval (a.k.a The D). The Dockers won the first quarter but were unable to win the match. The team went on to win the last game of the season against the Årsta Swans starting a rivalry that continues today.
The Dockers also hosted the 2012 Swedish Open, formerly known as the Swedish Cup, on a record cold (6ºC) 1st day of June. 7 teams were in attendance including the Oslo Crows.
