The 2016 Swedish Cup hosted by the Norrtälje Dockers was a huge success with more participants there ever before, including both women and junior games for the first time in AFL Sweden’s history.
The competition was tough between all the teams with plenty of games going down to the absolute wire. In the Men’s competition the reigning champion Port Malmö Maulers were once again too strong for their opponents, taking out the 2016 Swedish Cup over a battered and bruised Södermalm Blues in the final.
The Norrtälje Dockers had a successful day winning 3-out-of-5 matches to take third place in the men’s division. The third place result is the Dockers best effort at a Swedish Cup in the club’s four year history and is a reflection of the successful season that they are having in the SAFF competition in 2016.
The Port Malmö Lynx took out the women’s competition after three tough games against a newly formed Norrtälje Dockers team. The teams were very evenly matched throughout the day with Malmö winning on aggregate goals for and against.
The overall performance on and off the field was like no other during the 2016 Swedish Cup and can be easily classed as the most successful tournament in Dockers and AFL Sweden history.
